New Community of St Anselm at Lambeth

Last month, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, commissioned a Prior and Director for the Community of St Anselm. This new Community is an ecumenical initiative of the Archbishop where ‘young Christians from around the world are invited to spend “a year in God's time” living and praying together at Lambeth Palace’.

Revd Anders Litzell was licensed as Prior. He is a Swedish, Anglican priest who studied in the USA and has worked for Alpha International, as well as had experience in the Pentecostal and Lutheran tradition. Revd Litzell will pioneer the Community and direct its worship and work.

Sister Sonia Béranger was licensed as Director. She is a senior member of the Catholic Community Chemin Neuf.  Sister Sonia  has worked with young people across several continents and recently  led Chemin Neuf’s community at Hautecombe Abbey in France. She will be responsible for the spiritual formation and communal life of the Community of St Anselm.

The Archbishop of Canterbury  welcomed four members of the international ecumenical foundation Chemin Neuf to live as a praying community at Lambeth Palace.
